Hesbania

Farmers settled together to prosper
Rolling hills and apple trees
Promised a life of independency
Didn’t make them carefree

They arrived in the 7th century
Called their home Hesbania
And so started their history
The Frankish Haspinga

Set apart for Guerin’s son
A land of fertile clay
Formed part of Austrasia
A good place to stay

Farmers settled together to prosper
Rolling hills and apple trees
Promised a life of independency
Didn’t make them carefree

Old Dutch stories I’ve found
About a rich region
With fruits and coal power
Became a tradition

Many curly rivers nurture
Plenty of agriculture
Have hurriedly changed
Into a tourist culture

Farmers settled together to prosper
Rolling hills and apple trees
Promised a life of independency
Didn’t make them carefree

Many fruit farms are now automated
Yet worries still remain
As fruit trees start to flower
Cold makes them go away

Now competition rules the day
Russians want our pears?
Farmers working all the time
How about our heirs?
